Doesn’t the food look delicious? (Trust me, it was!!!)
I photographed my first wedding on Saturday. I cannot believe that i’m saying this, but me………………… the person who has rolled my eyes at the mention of shooting a wedding……………………well I……………..found it fun and entertaining. It was my brother in law Scott and his new wife Tina. They were fantastic. EVERYONE told me not to shoot a family members wedding, that it would be more trouble than it was worth. They have not seen their photos yet, but I hope they will be delightfully surprised. I appreciated them allowing me to make first timers mistakes at their wedding! It’s going to happen. I mine as well do it to an in-law! :) Just kidding, there were not that many issues! But I did learn a few lessons which I am sure to post more about!
(B.T.W. Professional’s had warned me about all of my mistakes. That’s why they are the professionals $$$$$)
1. NEVER SHOOT ALONE!!!!!!!!!!!!
A second shooter can get one side while you get another, you can be reassured that if you missed a moment the second shooter probably was close enough to catch it. If you need to change cards, some one has your back. If you need a break for a minute, SO many reasons to list but those were the most important to me at this wedding.
2. Back up, Back up, Back Up, H20
Four most important things, Back up camera body, back up lens, back up memory cards, Bottles of WATER!!!!! I was lucky to be able to borrow a lens from a friend, but it was a 55-200 great over all and for close ups, Terrible trying to be close to the action. If I had a second body, I could have used both lenses with ease of swapping back and forth. Water weird to throw in right? Well I had expected to have water. A mistake on my part. Next time I will make sure no mater what, I have bottles of water!!!! I was so thirsty!!!!!
3. Know the agenda down to the second. At this small wedding there were no microphones. I had a very hard time trying to make out what was being said, to know where I needed to be.
4. Have fun its a party! I really enjoyed it!!!

Yesterday was a great day! I dragged the family around with me looking for school portrait locations. We ended up having a lot of fun & found a couple of great locations. I love how much the slate in this photo describes exactly how I felt. Torn between living the dream of being a Photographer full time, or having a steady pay check. :) Ahh to live the dream! My husband pointed out this beautiful flower to me! I had never seen one like it before.
